How to incorporate a company

Companies House has published an updated version of their guide that sets out the main requirements for incorporating a company in the UK.

The guidance entitled <i>Incorporation and Names</i> also provides advice on checking which names are acceptable to Companies House when naming a company. The guide includes information on: A business cannot operate as a limited company until it has been incorporated at Companies House under the Companies Act 2006. There are three ways to incorporate a company, by electronic software filing, web incorporation service and paper filing. The cheapest and most popular methods of doing so are electronic. <ul> <li>Incorporating a limited company</li> <li>The type of company to be incorporated</li> <li>The company’s officers</li> <li>Choosing a company name including controls and restrictions</li> <li>Disclosure of company name and other information</li> </ul> The following documents must be filed in order to incorporate a company: <ul> <li>An application to register a company together with the appropriate fee</li> <li>The memorandum of association</li> <li>The articles of association</li> <li>Additional information if the application includes a sensitive word or expression. For example a word or expression that may cause criminal offence.
