NI Relief for Employers who hire veterans

This a new relief and is available from April 2021. Relief is made available for any jobs undertaken by a veteran, providing the new employment does have links to the Ministry Of Defence or NATO. The NI relief is only available for 12 consecutive months from the veteran’s first day of civilian employment. This zero-rate can be applied up to the upper secondary NI threshold. For the 2021-22 tax year, employers will need to pay the secondary Class 1 National Insurance contributions as normal and claim it back retrospectively from April 2022 onwards. <span>Information on how employers will be able to claim it back will be published before April 2022 and from the same date, employers will be able to apply the relief monthly via the RTI submissions.</span>
