This year sees a high number of medium to small businesses tackling auto enrolment for their employees. It can look quite daunting with a minefield of information needing to be understood and processed. Having started, nearly three years ago, navigating our clients through this particular minefield we feel confident that we can help you. Many employers will come to us saying that they don’t think their employees will want to be auto enrolled into a pension scheme, so as an employer is there any reason they should bother with setting one up? If an employee meets the criteria to be auto enrolled then they can only choose to opt out of the scheme once they have been auto enrolled. This means that the employer must provide a scheme in the first instance to be able to go through the process. Be aware that non compliance fines are in place and that The Pensions Regulator is actively enforcing the employer duties. Legal obligations are in place to ensure that you inform your staff about the process of auto enrolment with on-going communication by letter. Our payroll processing can complete your payroll, assess your employees, produce all correspondence required for your employees and upload the pension information to your provider in a timely manner for each pay run. The starting point for this process will be your staging date. If you don’t already know this date then you can easily check using your PAYE reference number on The Pensions Regulator website. Armed with this important date you will be able to start making decisions within the allotted time frame to ensure that you comply with your auto enrolment duties.
